The Royal Opera House in Muscat, Oman for the Performance of Ana Moura, a Fado Singer from Portugal.
Dr. Carmen M. Castro, is an invited guest at The Royal Opera House in Muscat, Oman for the performance of Ana Moura on November 10th, 2016. There is no voice quite like that of Ana Moura, an award-winning Fado artist who performs as successfully in Carnegie Hall as she does in music festivals. Fado, a highly expressive and unique form of singing that originated in working class cafés of Portugal in the early nineteenth century has been inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible World Cultural Heritage list. Ana Moura has broadened the scope of this traditionally melancholic genre, lightening it with elegance. Moura’s big break came with the release of Para Além da Saudade in 2007, an album which achieved triple platinum status and was nominated for a Golden Globe.
That year she famously joined the Rolling Stones on stage, singing “No Expectations” with Mick Jagger. Another album, Leva-me aos Fados (“Take Me to a Fado House”) soon went Platinum, followed in 2013 by Desfado, the all-time best-charting album in Portugal, certified five times Platinum. Ana currently tours abroad, travelling recently to the UK, Canada, Austria, Germany and the USA.
